Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire (February 27, 2010 - Toronto ON). Pointe Claire is a small community that is located on the West Island, which is an island in Montreal. The West Island has a lot of diverse communities. For those who haven't been aware of it frequently confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. Many times, it is credited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her time there was short. Brugel grew up in Courtice outside Oshawa Ontario. The first goal she had was to dance but an increase in her height resulted in her outgrowing the dancers she was with. She admitted in an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. The moment I outgrew any male partner and stopped dancing, I quit. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement by her drama instructor at her high school which pushed her to the path she needed. It was the teacher who recommended she take on a part in the annual school production. Following a trial the role, she was chosen as the lead actress of Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. For the last twenty years, Brugel's work has been seen on both the small and large screen. She gained the most fame when she was offered the role as Rita in the acclaimed television series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 which was viewed only on occasion.
